After the meeting held in February at the United Nations offices in Geneva, the Fondation Ondjyla took part in the AI for Developing Countries Forum, this time hosted at the UN offices in Vienna, reinforcing its commitment to debating the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in developing countries. The discussion emphasized the urgency of integrating AI into national development agendas and explored key topics such as technological autonomy, data sovereignty, inclusion and sustainability, digital governance, and capacity building.
In a world where more than 3 billion people still lack access to digital tools in their native languages, and where Africa could add up to USD 1.2 trillion to its GDP with AI by 2035, it became clear that public–private partnerships, locally informed data-driven policies, and the application of AI in sectors such as agriculture and health are essential to foster inclusive and sustainable innovation.
